Description of role:

World Class Defence Organisation based in Stevenage, Hertfordshire is currently looking to recruit a Principal Structural Engineer subcontractor on an initial 12 month contract, with very likely extension.  The role will be onsite 4 days per week.  
 
Candidates with a FE background ( Structural Engineer / Structural Analysis ) ideally from the Defence / Aerospace industry would be suitable for this position.

Rate: £50.00 per hour
Overtime Rate: Hours worked over the standard 37 hours per week, will be paid at ‘time and a quarter’
Location: Stevenage
Hybrid / Remote working: The role will be onsite 4 days per week
Duration: 12 Months with very likely extension. Contracts are often ongoing and long-term thereafter. 
IR35 status: Inside IR35 (Umbrella)
Interview process: One stage video interview
 
Principal Structural Engineer Job Description:

The Mechanical Analysis Group are looking for a Principal Structural Engineer to join its team in Stevenage. The group consists of over fifty engineers working across a wide spectrum of cutting-edge military systems.
 
Responsibilities:

Working for an internationally recognised company, you will play a critical role in ensuring that products deliver the necessary performance against key structural requirements.
 
Skillset/experience required:
  • Degree qualified in a STEM subject.
  • Proven ability to carry out structural analysis through the application of hand calculations and Finite Element (FE) methods. Proven experience in the Altair FE toolset is preferred, although experience in alternative FE codes such as NASTRAN, ANSYS etc. will be considered.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Static, dynamic, fatigue analysis;
  • Metallic/composite analysis;
  • Finite Element optimisation & Design of Experiments;
  • Assessment of mechanisms and multi body dynamics;
  • Crash analysis.
  • Ability to make quick/simple assessments to progress design activities in an efficient manner.
  • Self-motivated individuals, who are great problem solvers and are able to take responsibility for complex structural analysis tasks.
  • Can work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, as well as independently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to network and influence internal and external customers.
  • Relevant experience in an equivalent or comparable industry would be advantageous.
