Description of role:
World Class Defence Organisation based in Stevenage, Hertfordshire is currently looking to recruit a Power Electronics Design Engineer subcontractor on an initial 6 month contract.
Hourly Rate: £55ph (Umbrella)
Contract Duration: 6 Months (initially and then ongoing and long-term thereafter)
Power Electronics Design Engineer Job Description:
As a member of the Power Electronics team, you will play an integral part in delivering the power electronics that control the Actuation Systems – driving and controlling motors that manoeuvre fins and ultimately provide controlled movement to our products.
You will use your experience to support and be responsible for circuit design, prototyping, testing and integration/design proving of hardware needed for motor control, feedback loops and general control system support during flight.
Your role will cover activities from early feasibility and technology assessments through to certification and supporting transition to production. You will operate in all stages of the product lifecycle, ensuring products meet quality, cost and rate targets by working closely with wide ranging stakeholders as part of multi-disciplinary teams.
- Ideally, degree qualified with post qualification experience in Electronic Design, development and delivery.
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team, with an awareness of the challenges and opportunities that this may bring and a passion for team working and collaboration.
- Experience or interest in power electronics, such as for motor control applications, would be an advantage along with a commitment to designing excellent solutions.

Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for developing cutting-edge electronic solutions for weapon systems. This will include on board missile sub-systems and Land, Sea and Air based Firing Units. Your role will entail responsibility for the quality and performance of the electronic solution together with providing cost and schedule updates to a project manager.
You will have a sound track record in electronic design capability throughout the product life cycle, i.e. early concept through to production. The technical solutions you will implement will range across the Power and Analogue Electronics sphere of expertise and will be at both sub-system and board level.
This role will require you to liaise with other domains, e.g. Software, Firmware, Mechanical, Environmental, EMC etc. to ensure your designs perform in all respects to the requirements placed upon you. In so doing you will be key to delivering world class missile solutions to our customers.
Skillset/experience required:
* Ideally, degree qualified with significant post qualification experience in Electronic Design, development and delivery.
* Someone who can demonstrate the capability to lead significant Electronic design work packages and have experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team with the awareness and understanding of the challenges that this may bring.
* Excellent problem solving skills and knowledge of a wide range of electronic technologies and products.
