Description of role:
Senior Electrical Engineer, Solar PV & BESS (Ireland)
Senior Electrical Engineer (Renewables)
The Opportunity
Our client is a global leader in renewable energy infrastructure, currently building over 300MW of capacity annually. Following a period of significant international growth, they are establishing a dedicated EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) subsidiary in Ireland.
We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer who is a “doer” at heart—someone with deep technical expertise who is excited to be a founding member of the Irish engineering team. You will be the primary electrical authority for utility-scale Solar PV and BESS projects, helping the business transition from an agile startup phase to an established market leader.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Compliance
Irish Grid Authority: Act as the principal point of contact for EirGrid and ESB, ensuring all projects meet rigorous Irish Grid Code and safety regulations.
Design & Review: Prepare and approve complex electrical designs, including AC/DC/HV/LV equipment, protection systems, and cable sizing.
Substation Oversight: Lead the technical interface for the design, construction, and commissioning of MV/HV substations.
Project Delivery & Operations
Subcontractor Management: Interface with and manage Tier 1 electrical subcontractors to ensure technical assurance.
Active Site Involvement: Transition from office-based design to site-based supervision (up to 3-4 days per week) during peak construction and commissioning windows.
Commissioning: Support international teams in executing all pre-commissioning and final energization activities.
Strategic Growth
Business Support: Assist in the tendering process by providing technical expertise for pricing documents and vendor selection.
Mentorship: Guide graduate engineers and prepare to lead a dedicated electrical department as the Irish team scales significantly over the next 12 months.
Candidate Profile
Experience: 4–8 years of proven experience in the HV Energy or Renewable sector. We value “high-potential” candidates on the cusp of management who still enjoy being hands-on.
Technical Mastery: In-depth knowledge of Irish Grid Code compliance and the energization process is essential.
Practical Background: Experience with HV/MV substations is vital. We highly value candidates with practical “site-first” backgrounds (e.g., qualified electricians who progressed into engineering).
Mindset: Proactive and flexible. You should thrive in a startup environment where you are happy to assist in areas outside your core remit to ensure project success.
Values: Our client is committed to an inclusive, gender-balanced workforce and encourages diverse applicants to maintain their modern team dynamic.
What’s on Offer?
Work-Life Balance: 37.5-hour week with a 1:00 PM finish every Friday.
Mobility: Fully expensed Company Car.
Financial Security: Competitive base salary, 10% performance bonus, and up to 8% employer pension contribution.
Leave & Wellness: 35 days annual leave (inc. public holidays) and a €350 annual wellness/gym allowance.
Career Path: A flat hierarchy with direct access to leadership and a clear path to a Head of Department role within 24 months.
