Description of role:

Offshore Control Engineer (HV)

We are seeking a highly specialized Lead Control Engineer to oversee High Voltage operations for a major offshore wind development in Taiwan. This is a critical consultancy and long-term support role, acting as the primary authority for the offshore network during the high-pressure construction and commissioning phases.

The successful candidate will join an international team of experts, ensuring the safe management of the grid and the successful energization of offshore assets.

Key Information

Location: Taiwan (Offshore)
Daily Rate: Up to £ 900 per day (Inclusive of agency fees)
Rotation: 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off (Providing back-to-back coverage)
Duration: Initial 6-month contract (High likelihood of extension)
Start Date: Immediate / ASAP

Technical Responsibilities

Network Authority: Serve as the primary Control Engineer for the offshore network, managing systems from 220kV up to 400kV.
Safety Coordination: Implement and enforce strict High Voltage Safety Rules to protect personnel and equipment during complex commissioning tasks.
Switching Operations: Write, review, and authorize detailed switching programs for the energization of offshore substations and cable strings.
System Oversight: Monitor the integrity of the network, managing load flows and voltage control during the integration of wind turbine generators.
Technical Consultancy: Provide expert guidance on system faults and network stability, and assist in the technical mentoring of the wider HV team.
Stakeholder Liaison: Coordinate closely with the Marine Coordination Center and onshore grid authorities to ensure seamless operations.

Candidate Requirements

Mandatory Authorizations

High Voltage Authorization: Must hold (or have recently held) full Control Engineer Authorization for systems up to 400kV.
Offshore Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in offshore wind, specifically within construction and commissioning environments.

Essential Certifications

GWO Suite: Valid Sea Survival, Fire Awareness, First Aid, Manual Handling, and Working at Heights.
Medical: Valid Offshore Medical (OGUK/ENG1 or equivalent) including Chester Step Test.
Training History: A comprehensive training logbook demonstrating a “Green” status across mandatory HV and site-specific safety modules.

Competencies

Expert knowledge of offshore substation assets (GIS switchgear, transformers, reactors).
Ability to remain calm and decisive during network emergencies or system faults.
Strong English communication skills for working with a multi-national offshore workforce.
