Key Responsibilities & Impact:
This role is not standard administration—it involves accountability and technical depth. Your principal accountabilities will include:
- Handling High-Value Authorisations: Taking ownership for the authorisation of significant payments, including pension commencement lump sums up to £268,275 and transfer values up to £1.5 million.
- Managing Complex Casework: Leading administration for non-standard, intricate workflows such as retirement, divorce, and transfer cases.
- Technical Query Resolution: Serving as an escalation point for complex member queries, including those related to Lifetime/Annual Allowance, SSPP, and formal complaints, requiring deep technical and scheme-specific knowledge.
- Driving Operational Excellence: Providing support to the Operations Team Leader by controlling outstanding case volume and ensuring adherence to legislative requirements and Trustee-defined Service Level Agreements.
- Legislative Insight: Developing expertise in new UK pensions legislation and supporting the implementation of changes to administration processes across the schemes.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years’ senior-level Defined Benefit pension administration experience is essential.
- Technical Knowledge: Advanced technical knowledge of UK pensions legislation and a track record of processing and authorising complex pension calculations.
- Qualifications: Educated to A-level standard or higher. A PMI pension administration qualification (e.g., APMI, RPC, CPC) is highly preferred or evidence of actively working towards one.
- Systems Experience: Familiarity with pensions administration systems, preferably Compendia and/or Intellipen, would be a significant advantage.
- Core Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong customer-focused communication skills (written and verbal), and a proven ability to work as a self-starter and effective team player within a multi-site operation.

Key Challenges:
- Develop knowledge on all UK-linked Shell Pension Funds.
- Develop knowledge on new pensions legislation being introduced and how these legislative changes affect the Shell pension funds and current pension administration processes.
- Assist with the implementation of changes to pensions administration processes. Embrace and help to promote new ways of working across the team.
Skills & Experience:
- At least 5 years senior pension administration experience (with administration experience of the Shell pension schemes an advantage).
- Educated to A level standard or higher.
- Preferably holds a PMI pension administration qualification or working towards one i.e. APMI, RPC, CPC.
- Advanced technical knowledge of defined benefit pension schemes and UK pensions legislation.
- Experience of processing and authorizing pension calculations.
- Experience of pensions administration systems, preferably Compendia and Intellipen.
- Self-starter and effective team player
- Strong eye for detail and good grammatical skills
- Track record of doing and checking work
- Strong customer focused skills in dealing with members on the phone or in writing.
- Willingness to travel on occasions, principally to Krakow
