Lead Software Engineer (Embedded C)

Location: Cumbria / Hybrid

4 day working week.

Certain Advantage are supporting a World leading client who design and manufacture electronics products for use in defence applications across Air, Land and Sea domains.

They are an award winning supplier of products to globally renowned defence clients and they are in need of a Lead Software Engineer who can ideally offer a background in working within either Aerospace, Military or Automotive environments and offer some experience of digital hardware design and interfacing.

The Role

As the Lead Software Engineer you’ll progress software development projects through the full lifecycle, from initial concept through requirements, design, coding, verification, validation, and certification.

You’ll be expected to report on the design status, technical issues, schedule and cost to management stakeholders and project teams.

It will be your responsibility to critically review software design processes to identify opportunities to improve; highlighting and implementing actions to promote efficiency and continuous improvement.

As a lead you’ll also be expected to give support to other engineers (e.g. Junior Engineers, Apprentice) in creating and maintaining software documentation and source code.

What we’re looking for in your application:

  • Degree in Software Engineering or similar subject.
  • Full life cycle software development within a relevant industry – preference for Aerospace, Defence, Automotive. Some experience of digital hardware design and interfacing.
  • Embedded C
  • MISRA C safety Critical
  • Microcontroller experience (16Bit & 8 Bit)
  • Verification/Debugging knowledge (writing Test scripts, Low level Unit testing and Integration testing)
  • Extensive knowledge of 8 and 16bit microprocessors/microcontrollers in including PIC18 and DSPIC
  • Documentation; in accordance with DO-178C and other standards
  • Skilled in the use of standard Microsoft Office applications; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent Analytical and Problem-Solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills, written and presentation skills
