Assistant Accountant

Position: Assistant Accountant
Location: Inverclyde
Salary: £30,000 – £35,000 (depending on experience)

My client is looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join their finance team.  This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious finance professional to join a dynamic and growing business. This role will play a key part in the day-to-day finance operations and the preparation of monthly management accounts.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the month-end process, including preparation and posting of journals (payroll, accruals, and prepayments).
• Manage revenue recognition and ensure accuracy in reporting.
• Handle intercompany charges and reconciliations.
• Complete balance sheet and bank reconciliations.
• Maintain and update the Fixed Asset Register.
• Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and departmental budgets.
• Contribute to the annual budget process and external audit requirements.
• Provide occasional support to Accounts Payable and Payroll functions as needed.
• Identify and implement continuous process improvements within the finance team.

Skills & Experience

• High level of integrity, reliability, and attention to detail.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable working to tight deadlines and managing multiple priorities.
• Confident communicator with the ability to build relationships across departments.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and familiar with accounting systems.
• Awareness of data privacy and compliance standards.

Qualifications

• Studying towards or holding a recognised accounting qualification (e.g. AAT, ACCA, CIMA) is preferred, but not essential.
